DC time. DC is a bit behind Marvel in creating their movie universe which is called the DCEU (DC Extended Universe, not a big fan of the name). Hopefully they don’t rush things but these are the two movies we’re most interested in seeing.
Suicide Squad
This will be the first time that theres a Superhero movie focused on villains only. Of course Marvel had the rumored Sinister Six film but that seems like a dead-end now that Spider-man was rebooted. Suicide Squad looks very promising for the simple fact that villains are teaming up for what it seems to be a reduced jail sentence. I am unsure of each villains backstory will be reviewed but Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Joker, and The Huntress seem to be important villains in the film. Rumors indicated Joker won’t be in the actual squad but his presence will be felt. The trailer hints at flashback scenes to how he made Harley Quinn the person she is now. This will show one of the biggest relationships in the comics come to life. If anyone watches Arrow, Deadshot isn’t all that bad. He was forced into being a contract killer after his Spec Ops days and blames himself for the death of his daughter and wife. Of course this is Arrow’s take on him so theres no truth this is the same character we’ll see on the big screen. Let’s just hope each villain has an interesting power to offer on the job that is still under-wraps.
Aquaman
The most recent time we’ve seen Aquaman on TV is Justice League which did him some Justice. Aquaman is usually depicted as pretty lame. He controls fish in the sea and swims really fast. This is how most depictions of him are. They limit his powers and make him a laughingstock amongst his peers and fans everywhere but this movie looks to change all of it. We know that DC has a grounded approach and they have casted Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Hopefully Aquaman’s origin is changed a bit and he’s a descendant of an ancient tribe who is very in touch with water. This makes sense to cast someone who’s a pacific islander because when thinking about Atlantis, I doubt anyone thinks of a caucasian man with blue eyes. The picture released as Aquaman in armor holding a trident. Hopefully this trident it similar to Thor’s hammer and has special powers while Aquaman’s abilities are similar to that of his Justice League depiction. In Justice League Aquaman is very strong and can take a huge beating. He’s a valuable member even on land and the movie should really exploit that. Aquaman is a very cool hero and this movie should make him some people favorites. Just imagine a kid telling his friends “My favorite hero is Aquaman” wow music to my ears.
